How to Make Pot Roast (Oven or Crockpot)
Step 1: Season the Roast
Generously season your Palm Cattle Company chuck roast with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Let it sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes to absorb the flavor.
Step 2: Sear for Flavor
In a large Dutch oven or skillet, heat olive oil or beef tallow over medium-high heat. Sear the roast on all sides (about 3–4 minutes per side) until a deep brown crust forms. This locks in moisture and enhances that Palm Ranch beef flavor.
Step 3: Build the Base
Add carrots, potatoes, onions, and garlic around the roast. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce, then pour it over the roast and vegetables. Sprinkle with rosemary.
Step 4: Cook Low & Slow
For oven:
Cover with a tight-fitting lid and roast at 300°F (150°C) for 3.5 to 4 hours, or until meat is fork-tender.
For crockpot:
Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4–5 hours. Add vegetables halfway through for a firmer texture.
Serve and Savor
Once cooked, shred the chuck roast with two forks and serve with the roasted vegetables and rich, savory broth spooned on top. This dish pairs beautifully with crusty bread or a side of creamy mashed potatoes.
